Ok, I read this on another forum, and I was curious if it pertains to my situation:
It's referring to a question asking about terminating an unknown father's rights.
This is my situation:
I gave birth to my daughter in the beginning of 2004. At every prenatal check-up and every county welfare appointment I have continued to state that I do not know who the father is. I found out I was pregnant shortly after choosing to leave a negative lifestyle, not knowing who the father was. The only father my daughter has ever known is my now husband, who has been in my daughters life since she was barely one. We raise our two children together as brother and sister, he's daddy and I'm mommy. And we are expecting another child in late August 2007. We do not choose to label it as step-daddy etc. (My husband has a son from a previous relationship, but the adoption process for him won't be a problem at the moment). Back on topic, my husband and I want to have him adopt my daughter officially and hyphenate her name to add ours. I have read that I should look into "a great book published by Nolo (nolo.com) called How To Adopt Your Stepchild In California". Which I do plan on looking up, once I post this thread.
My question concerning the newspaper add:
Should I just wait until Im told to do this our would it speed any process up doing it on my own in advance? Considering the well.... "lovely" choices I made in men in my past, Im quit confident that if anyone DID come forward, that they would sign over their rights. If they even remembered that far back, seeing as they were all heavily into drugs. (At least I hope and pray they would....) Im terrified of someone coming forward after 3+ years, (including pregnancy), and wanting to take our daughter from us.
Is there any other suggestions anyone might have? Do I have anything else to worry about that I have not thought of yet? I live in Contra Costa County by the way.

Well I know this one. It happend to me. What they do is run it in one of the local downtown newspapers. It has to run for three consecutive months ........ The notice says the mothers name (and aliases), the birth date of the child and the approximate time that the concept would have had to take place. It says if you think you are involved, come to court to talk about it.
