I just got an audit from Lisa saying I should not have included links to other adoptionblogs posts in my related links because they're my 'competition'. Am I mistaken, or is this what we were supposed to do? The way I understood it was that we were supposed to include links from other adoptionblogs as well as info from adoption.com.
Nancy, I thought I'd post here instead of emailing in case anyone else had the same question :)
thank you!
That's news to me. I'd not heard anything before about 'competition' or not linking to any particular site.
I've heard that other pro blogs (Family.com?) don't allow any links that navigate away from their group of sites, but haven't heard anything like that from Adoption.com.
It seems a bit petty, if I can be forgiven for saying so.

I was told to link to other adoption.com bloggers posts or blogs????? and adoption.com articles but not to link to outside competition such as Baby center????
I know, I just went back and re-read my email and it does say to link to other adoptionblogs posts. So I don't understand why I'm being criticized for doing just that. And I certainly never even thought of my fellow bloggers as competition
ok-I just reread my email again and maybe I'm just reading it wrong.
Along with my 3 related links (to other adoptionblogs posts) I also linked to some yahoogroups that were relevant to the topic. Perhaps she meant those are the competition? should I not be providing those links?
sorry for the rambling...I'm just confused and I'm unsure if Lisa's available to ask directly right now since she's working on another project. I hope this is the right place to ask for some clarification:confused:
thanks!

Hi Sandra,
There's nothing wrong with linking to a great resource for your readers, BUT all links shouldn't be off the site, and they should be on target.
We have tons of our "own" resources (in our blogs or adoption.com, or adopting.org, adoptioninformation.com, fertilitycommunity.com, etc.) that ought to provide at least ONE link.
Also, linking to the top page of a large site isn't recommended. If there's a page on a site that's relevant, the best thing to do is link directly into that page. Sending readers to the top page of a site puts them in the position of searching around until they find what you were talking about. And they leave you.
