If you were born, or your child was born or adopted in MO, or if you currently live in MO, please take action TODAY! HB509 allows adult adoptees to receive their original birth certificates. If you support this please email your representative, as well as the entire judiciary committee today. Urge them to vote, and vote yes to HB509. They will discuss it TUES. If they don't hear from you, they will likely not only vote no, but not vote at all. So write them today to urge them to vote in favor of this bill. They especially need to hear from Birth mothers, as they do not believe a woman would ever want to be found by their adopted children. Keep it short and sweet, but let them know what position you hold in the triad, birthparent, adoptee, adoptive parent. Even if you are a "friend of adoption", it would be great for them to hear from you. Try not to make it about search and reunion so much as equal access for adult adoptees, but definitely let them know we are not opposed to contact. Like I said they esp need to hear this from birthparents, so get out there and write those emails :)!
If you prefer to call, just google MO house of representatives, and there is a page with contact info for each of the members, including phone #'s. Or just paste this into your "to" field in the email program, it is the email addresses of the entire judiciary committee. Take action before Tuesday!

Well, they didn't vote. Please keep sending emails/writing letters and calling the committee. Because they will let it go if we don't keep on them, we need to let them know how important it is. If you don't take action, then who will? We are the people they want to hear from, we are the people this bill is for. So if you want access to your own truthful, unammended birth certificate, act today to make it happen.

INSTITUTE TESTIFIES ON ACCESS TO RECORDS, 2ND PARENT ADOPTION BILLS
On April 4 the Adoption Institute submitted testimony during a public hearing in support of a Missouri bill (HB509) that would permit adult adoptees 18 years or older to obtain a certified copy of their original birth certificates. A similar bill was rejected on April 23 by the Judiciary Committee of the Connecticut General Assembly, the second time such legislation has failed to become law; Gov. M. Jodi Rell had vetoed the measure last year. The Adoption Institute also submitted a letter in support of legislation in Michigan (HB4259) that would permit second parent adoptions and allow unmarried couples to adopt jointly in the state.
