Now that we're bringing home two, I have to cut back a little on what I had envisioned as far as the nursery goes. That being said, have any of you used a mini crib? Would that work OK for the twins? Two cribs, obviously. Just trying to figure out how we can cut back on what we have to spend on furniture. Thanks! :thanks:

the thing about mini cribs is that they are, well, mini :). they will out grow them much faster than a typical crib. this works ok for little tiny peanuts...but if your babies turn into giants, you may find yourself re-buying cribs...this time larger....if they outgrow them before they are ready to be in a toddler bed. if you are set on a mini crib (b/c there are MANY cute ones out there!) i would wait to buy cribs until you enter pgn and know how big they are at that time....otherwise, i'd buy 2 typical size cribs...better safe than sorry....i guess in this case, better bigger than buying twice.

I have a photo of my nephew jumping (head-first of course) out of a mini crib when he was about a year old. (Luckily the crib was next to the couch so no damage was done.) This is why I would definitely not buy a mini crib for night time (though I was tempted too!).
I am still debating whether to use one or two cribs (regular size) initially. I have heard the babies often share cribs / cots in Guatemala, and if they are used to that, I could see continuing it for a while when they are home. But I think eventually, they will need two separate full-size cribs, as I don't plan on putting them in a bed until they are much older. I will probably bite the bullet and buy the cribs at the same time, so at least I can be sure they will match.
I think it is true that babies often share cribs in Guatemala and when our girls first came home, our Savannah was so small and cried in the "big" crib, so we bought a divider for her crib and just kept moving it down as she grew. If you want to use one crib with a divider, pm me and I will tell you where to buy it online for about 15 bucks! God Bless
My twins slept together for the first 9 months in the same crib...we had 2 regular size cribs. Then I split them up and they were fine. For space, I shoved the cribs together to make a square. They eventually learned how to climb into the other crib and somedays I would walk in and find 2 in one crib. If you could squeeze them in I would go for 2 full size cribs.
Best of luck!!!
My daughters slept in a 3/4 size porta crib in our bedroom. We do not have a nursery due to space. I like prota cribs because of the netting versus wood bars. We did have to move one to a regular crib at about 16 months because she is Houdini. I received full sized wooden used cribs from friends. We now have both girls in two different full size cribs at 19 months old. If it wasn't for my Houdini DD they could still be in the 3/4 porta cribs. Can you let your church or friends know you are looking for cribs? Often people have one standing around and do not know what to do with them. Anna

I also forgot to say the main reason that I was considering the mini cribs is to save space. We have enough room for two regulars but I thought if I could get by with the mini's that would be good. Doesn't sound like that's such a good idea, though. We don't have any big chain baby stores around here so I can't just run there and look and see how big they are, if they even have them on the floor.
I would go with a full size crib because they just might stay in them for awhile. We brought our dd home at 17 months old. I borrowed a crib that was used by 3 of my nieces and nephews because I didn't think she would be in it very long. My bio dd was 20 months old when she went to a regular bed. Well, Marisol stayed in her crib until she was 3 1/2 years old. She just went to a regular bed this past September. She never tried to climb out of her crib and she slept very well in it. We just decided it was time to move her to a regular bed and she did fine with that too.
