We took our MAPP classes about a year and a half ago. During the classes, we decided to wait on getting licensed, as we just weren't sure if we were ready. A few months ago we met a foster baby that some good friends of ours were fostering. Our friends have been fostering for years and have decided they are going to stop fostering. This baby in their care may possibly become available for adoption down the road. Our friends new we were going to foster in hopes of adopting. She told us to go ahead and get licensed and she would talk with the agency (Children's Home Society) to see if he could be placed with us once we are licensed. The first March, we got busy...we did our homestudies, finger prints, health inspection, radon test...everything that was required of us. When our foster recruiter was here doing our homestudy, we talked about the little baby that our friends have....she told us that yes, once we are licensed, they will move him over to us! Yay. We were so excited. I asked her how long she thought it was going to take to get us licensed....she told me, "2 weeks...3 weeks MAX". HA...and I believed her. On April 5th, she sent our file/homestudy to DCF for final approval. She told me she would know something in a week or so, and then went on to tell me, that once she has word from DCF that we have been approved, she will go ahead and move the baby over here. She said she did NOT have to wait to receive our license but only needs to hear that we have been approved. Well....last Thursday...it had been 2 weeks since she sent off our file and I had heard nothing from her. So ... I emailed her and I asked her if she had heard anything from DCF yet. She emailed me right back and said "Yes, I have received word that your file has been approved..now I am just waiting to receive your license in the mail and will call when I get it." HUH? She said she did not have to wait for that. I immediately emailed her back and reminded her that she had told me that she did not have to wait to receive our license but would move the baby over here once she had word of our approval. She then replied that her supervisor requests all foster homes receive their license before any child is placed. Arrrggghhhh. And she didn't even apologize for telling me otherwise previously! so....I wrote her back and asked how long this was going to take now. Of course she never replied to that! I'm so tired of waiting. Mail only takes a day or 2 within the same state....so she should have received our license by now....but I bet it's laying on someone's desk. I hate being in limbo.
Sound familiar to any of you??
That is really frustrating, especially how she told you one thing and later said another, and didn't even address it or anything when you called her on it. Try to hang in there, it hasn't been that long in the grand scheme of things, but I know how anxious you are.
Have you gotten baby's room ready? :)

Yep, you just started and already feel the pain. The system does this alot and places everyone in limbo. I think the SW's take a class in "limbo" and "beating around the bush" LOL One hour it's one thing and the next they change it all on you!
Sorry you have to go thru this! Hoping the baby gets to your home soon!
Are u by any chance in Polk County!? Sounds like a very familiar situation for new foster parents in our area!
I am sorry you are having to face the reality of the system so early on, I hope that you'll find at some point that the journey was worth it.

If it makes you feel any better you're not alone. We finished MAPP in April 06, we didn't get licensed until July but it was worth the wait in the end.
