My partner and I have been approached by a birth mum in ontario (we are in manitoba) about adopting a baby due in august. A social worker told me there is a 30 day foster care period in ontario, but birth mom an dmyself are concerned about this for bonding and breastfeeding reasons (I am currently bfing my bio child and had hoped to bf this baby) can you tell me how flexable they are about this contact? Has anyone had experiences with this?
Thanks
Heather
Are you adopting this child privately or through the CAS? In most cases if the child is placed with CAS they will not place the child for adoption until they are legally free. I believe with private adoptions you can take the child home before all of the waiting time is up.
In ontario, the birthparents cannot give thier consent for adoption until the child is 7 days old, once that is signed, the birthparents then have 21 days to revoke thier consent should they decide to parent.
