My oldest son T is 16 1/2 he is starting driver's training, getting his permit and will probably have his driver's liscense by the time he is 17. I am a little freaked - out (but I'd probably be freaked out about this even if he didn't have Aspbergers). He is very responsible, very good about following rules etc. I just wondered if anyone else has experience with this! THANKS - Suz

My aspie is only 14, but already counting down the days to driving. In some ways I am figuring he will be safer than my other son. He is very black and white in his thinking. He will tell me if I am speeding and it annoys him. He is pretty good at following rules. Now, he did wreck a friends golf cart by driving where he was told not to, but he was in it with a bunch of boys and they were all being silly. So I am thrilled that he will not be allowed to drive with friends for a while. He has been mowing our lawn with a riding lawn mower for two years now, I know it's not the same, but I am hoping that it's helping train his reflexes and control for driving. Part of me can't wait til he drives because I am spending a fortune on gass to drive the kids 15 miles each way to school and then pick them up. If he could drive them it would cut some of that gas cost in half. However, I probably will be paniced when the time comes too though for all of my kids, Aspergers or not. LOL
