Im just doing a little preliminary research as hubby and I are considering adopting another child via a private, domestic agency. Fingerprinting was not required that first time we adopted 2 years ago, but I know it is now. Most of what IҒve read about this subject has been for international adoptions. For those of you who have gone through this, can you tell me:

Is this something I can go ahead and have done now, so if/when we do decide to adopt and reapply to our agency, we wont have to wait on it?
Where can I get a form/instructions on the process?
Are there outside parties that handle express fingerprinting, or does it all go through one department of the state or FBI?
Any hints on speeding up the process or making sure things are lost?
Thanks in advance!

We got our fingerprints back in 48 hours. We went to a UPS Store that had the machine. I believe the name of the company was Pride Rock Holdings. We paid online. They sent us a UPC bar code which we took to the UPS store. You could look around at Pride rock's website, but I think you have to have an agency listed before you pay. It cost $53 a piece which was only $20 more than if we did it the slow way. For us since we want to get K home ASAP, it was worth it. If you're going to do it the slow way (6-8 weeks), go to your local State Police Post and they can do them there. Then save your cards to give to your adoption worker.

Our agency requested ours. They had a form for us to take with us. We got our fingerprints at the Police department. Then we sent them off. On the outside of the enveloped, that is addressed to the FBI, write in big bold print that it is for an adoption homestudy. They will expedite them. Ours was back in less than 2 weeks. Good luck ~ Carrie
