I would love to know what everyone does to boost energy. For me my biggest low is mid-afternoon and early evening, when I am needed MOST!!! Dinner, getting bath, bed, etc.... If I do caffeine... I don't sleep. Ideas? Antother mom of twins I know stays up until 2:00 in morning. I barely make it 9:00 somedays.

I have to say this is a good question. I read it this morning and had to take today to think how I keep going with young children. And you know what....I still don't have a perfect answer for you. I must say that there are many days when my oldest is in school I do enjoy an afternoon nap with my youngest. But during the summer days a nap is non - existant...lol We are very busy playing outside and other activities. I used to go to bed very early...litterly after the boys went to bed (between 8 and 9 pm). But lately I just cannot sleep until later...usually after midnight and up early the next morning. To try to answer your question in a very long winded way....I just plan alot of things to do from house work, I do some volunteer work and have meetings and emails to send and spending time with my kids. By then its time to think about dinner and dh is home. Yes I am exhausted but by then I have a second wind and feel like I am the energizer bunny that keeps on going....lol I am welcome to other suggestions myself (oh I forgot we do go on alot of walks together).

But just 6 days to go and I have to say, I do get a great deal of energy from doing Yoga and I am HOPING I can grab my mat and at least get 10 minutes in. What a difference it makes for me.
Also, I have read that even short periods of meditation are as restful as much longer naps. I can only do it with a guided tape and I'm not sure I can tune out even for a few minutes but I will try when DH is around. It's very restorative!
Stormster, I replied to an earlier post of yours but have to ask more about Yoga. Where and how do I start? I need something soothing, something that doesn't hurt my back (lower back problems), something to 'TAKE ME AWAY' for a few moments a day where I can get my "me" back. Best wishes to you, honey. I'm excited for you to hold that baby in your arms. I know you've had a lot of hurt but it will vanish in an instant, in about 5 days. Hugs.
joskids, jumping in here. Yoga is absolutely awesome for that TAKE ME AWAY time. You can buy some tapes and stuff--there's an A.M./P.M. tape that isn't bad, but frankly you are better off taking at least a beginner class from a good teacher (try your local Y, or a lot of communities have Yoga/Pilates studios where you can just pay by the class.) If you can take a beginner series, you can learn how to get into some of the basic positions without hurting yourself, and the instructor can help you modify positions or show you how to use props to avoid hurting your back, and teach you about the breathing techniques. Once you know the poses and how to get into them, it isn't hard to do a few minutes at home here and there. I'd also suggest steering clear of "hot" yoga (bikram) until you're more experienced.

Pilates is more about core strength training. Some pilates classes use machines to assist with it. You do exercises that are more like sit ups and leg raises in slower, more fluid motion than you might remember from gym class. You may also use props, like elastibands and exercise balls. Yoga is more about flexibility (though certainly you develop and strengthen muscles doing a lot of the poses) and focusing energy. It is just a very different kind of workout---I always leave yoga feeling like I've had a massage, and left pilates feeling like I was going to be sore the next day. There is a lot of crossover between the two, so I'd just see which one appeals to you more.
