Hello, I am attempting to help an elderly friend find his son. He was adopted out many years ago. My friend is in his 80's and is not computer literate so here I am.
I have his son's date of birth, birth mothers name and the name that was given to the son at birth. Where do I go from here. He was born in Washington 07/22/1944 so the son would be 63 now.
Would sure appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction. Thanks.

Hi, Caballera...
There are some great search tips in the search and reunion forum on this web site, lots of good advice there. Also, there are forums specifically for the state of birth (you listed Washington above) which may have advice that relates to your state of interest. There are also forums for the year of birth (1944).
The most important thing, I think, would be to create a profile on this and other search sites. On this site, go to the top menu bar and select "Reunite" which will bring up a form you can fill out to search. I entered your info and didn't see a profile, so you need to create that. It's not hard at all, and will enable your info to be searched for.
The largest organization to post your info with is ISSR. Although there is a web site, you have to actually mail in your contact info. Who knows? Maybe your friend's birthson has already registered and is waiting to be found. That happened to me here on this web site. I was able to find my bson because he wanted to be found, but he had his profile up for two years before I saw it.
There are also search angels as well as private investigators, but you can find so much information through the internet these days you may want to try searching yourself first. You'll also want to do some reading on reunions. The "Adoption Reunion Survival Guide" is a good book to start with.
Best wishes on your search, and don't forget to post on the search and reunion forums.
Peace,
Susan

The state of washington has a confidential intermediary system. Look up department of social services division of family etc also look up WARM..it is a washington resource for adoptees and do many searhes. Also alot of the adoption agencies will do the search if he remembers which agency that was used best of luck!
Caballera,
I just found this post, from March 2007, in the Washington search forum. The poster's name is Pennu. Hope it helps. There's more info on the Washington forum.
Peace,

Hi-
Just want to let all of you know we have a great Yahoo group that can help with searches in WA - all free! Just need a Yahoo email account.
Go to the Yahoo Group's main page, and search the groups for 'washington adoption search'.
For those of you with searches in WA, be sure to request your "non-identifying information" (non-id). You can get this info from the following places:
1. County where the adoption was finalized (usually same county where adoptive parents lived).
2. Adoption agency, if one was involved.
3. DSHS, if social services was involved.
Some counties and agencies try very hard to get you to hire a Confidential Intermediary (CI) to do a search, but you certainly don't have to. There are pros and cons so be sure to research before going down that road. : )
Feel free to email me if you need help figuring out where to request non-id, or need help with next steps in your search!
