Hello, We are an Army family but are currently hanging with AF folks at Eglin ARB in Florida. Hubby is a crazy Airborne Ranger and we love military life. We have 3 children, a 13 year old daughter, 4 year old son as well as a 20 month old son. We have all agreed (hubby, myself as well as our oldest) that our family isnt done.
I am very new to the adoption process. I mean, we have discussed it off and on many times but have just agreed to move forward. I have contacted a local agency and am waiting for our first appointment.
I am concerned that pursueing adoption may bring financial as well as emotional let down to our existing crew. So I am hoping networking will help us be realistic about the process.
Look forward to chatting..
Carrie

Hi Carrie!
I'm new here as well.
I think the financial part is our biggest worry also. I have no doubt my kids will get along with a new sibling. But I know if we stick to a budget and start saving now, we can manage it just fine. I know we'll able to get loans if we need to.
Good Luck!
Hi Carrie,
Richard here. My wife and I are stationed at Ft. Bragg. We are expecting our newborn in November. I recently have been conducting research of my own. My wife has done most of the legwork an d it's not fair that she has done most. Anyway, Financially speaking, it is not ays bad as you think...the IRS will refund up to 10k for an adoption. Also, the military can give you up to 2k for an adoption. That money comes once the adoption is final and you turn in the necessary paperwork...I still need to get those papers. If you google "Military Adoption Benefits" it should help. Let's see...also, the military will allow up to 21 days permissive TDY for the adoption..its like that for expecant mother/fathers. It's like maternity leave from the military, but for the soldier. It does not count towards your annual leave. I still need to get the memo for this b/c my command is kind of particular and won't sign unless they see the memo. I hope this has helped. Good luck and let me know if you need anything else.
Warmly,
Richard
