I finally got my husband fully on board to start the process to become Foster Parents. We would like to foster for a while and eventually adopt one more child. I am so excited. How long does it take to get licensed if we do the Saturday classes? How long will it take to get a placement and can we request a certain age limit? I would like a child around my sons age. But I am not sure how all of this works. I need to find out if my sitter takes 4C. I will be upset of I ahve to move my son back to daycare because the kids would have to go to the same place. I hope she takes 4C. I am not ready to move my son back to daycare just yet and I think a smaller environment would probably be better for the new child also. We are in Seminole County by the way.
How long does it take to get licensed if we do the Saturday classes?
Usually about a month to finish the classes and then anywhere from 24 hrs to 30 days to become licensed after all your classes and paperwork is turned into the state
How long will it take to get a placement
I got a placement call 30 mins after I found out I was licensed, I turned down my first 2 call and accepted my 1st placement of a CC male age 7 wks, 6 days later, but it only took so long because it was a holiday weekend and I am not on the emergency/holiday placement list.
and can we request a certain age limit?
Yes, I don't take in kids over age 6..after my youngest fson goes home, I don't plan to take in anymore children under age 1, unless it is a girl and she is likely to be adoptable or my kids mom has another baby that is taken into care.
You can also specify gender, race, disability levels you are comfortable with if you have a preference.

Are you going to get to adopt your foster children? We hope to adopt one more one day and it will probably be one of the children we foster. I cannot wait to get started.
We did the 4 Saturday classes for Mapp back in September...all month and our last one was last weekend in September. We then did our background checks and home study, home inspection, etc...and on Nov 22nd we were licensed. You can specify what child you'd like (age, gender, race, disabilities, etc...). We only became licensed to bring our niece home from Idaho to Florida so our license was only specific to her, therefore I can't say about adoptions. We will be adopting our niece after TPR happens next month.
