Hello we just got back from china with our new daughter and lately the time Change has messed up our daughters sleep routine, but we have a problem which we cant get her to sleep in her crib when we put her in the crib she goes crazy, kicking and screaming until Daddy picks her up. for some reason when daddy is holding her she is quite then when daddy leaves she crys even if mommy is still in the room. The funny thing is we are able to get her to sleep if we put her in the High Chair. Today she fell asleep in the High Chair I then picked her up and moved her to the crib and she went nuts so back to the high chair and now quite again. I dont want this to be a habit but this seems to be the only thing thats working to get her to sleep. Any suggestions.
You didn't mention how old she is so I don't know if this will work at her age or at all...but with munchkin once she coudl crawl, she took exception to the crib, we would put a "nap mat" like they use in daycares on the floor of the room we were in at bedtime and lay her down on it and she would go to sleep there. Except if she woke up in the crib later, she would be upset. Have you seen those free standing gates? We laid the matress on the floor, put a few toys nearby, and put the gate around it wherever we were. So if daddy was finishing up homework in the study, we put her to bed there. If we were watching a movie in the living room, she went to bed there. We didn't engage her after bedtime ritual, kept lights low and voices quiet...but if she played instead of sleeping, we ignored her. Eventually she slept and she was quiet enough that we could do other things.

Our bio son never did sleep in his crib. From the time he was newborn he would throw a fit everytime we put him in the crib. so, he started off in a cradle net to our bed, then when he outgrew that he moved into our bed. I do not recommend that! Then by the time he was a year I put a twin mattress on the floor of his room and that was his bed. I would lay down with him till he fell asleep, and he would sleep thru the night.
another thought: the crib could bring back memories of the orphanage.
Children are very different in their sleep needs. Our son was like this. All the stuff you read about the "correct" way to get children to sleep on their own is usually way off, too. Your child may have needs that you don't yet understand. So, I would find a solution that works for getting the child to sleep, without forcing the child into some routine that doesn't seem to fit.
