Well our worker came back and finished our homestudy yesterday. Now we are just waiting for approval. That should take 2 or 3 weeks she said. Anyway she also said that looking for ,and finding the child, is our job. She says that if a child comes available in her county that she will consider us ,but that she doesnt have time to actually look for a child to match us with a child. She said the best way to find a child is the photolistings, but none of the listings that we have found have ALL the kids that are available. The Florida website has a little over a thousand but if you look at some of the listings by county they have different kids that arent even on the florida website. I told or worker this and she says that it is a problem that she is aware of , but it's out of her hands. Does anyone know any websites for florida that have photlistings? We have only found a couple but I know there must be more. Any suggestions?
I don't know of any Florida photolisting sites, but I do know a hint - every time you send in your homestudy to be considered for a child whose photolisting you have seen, be sure to send a cover letter that states that even if you are not chosen for the specific child you are inquiring about, you would like to be considered for any other child the worker knows about who might be a better match for you.
That way the worker knows you're not just inquiring about the one specific child, but rather about any who meet the age/gender/health/behaviors criteria you've set. I have heard of people who got matched this way, with children in other counties or states who never even got placed on the photolistings.
Good luck!
