We still use a monitor while H is sleeping, and he talks in his sleep. Not mumbling, but loud, articulated words. He'll shout out "TOYS!" or "NIGHT NIGHT" or whatever, usually in a happy voice. He also has night terrors occasionally, but the talking is every single night. Do they all do this?

DD never shuts up!! Even in her sleep. One night we heard her going, "NO! STACY! NO!" She was upset when she saw her cousins Stacy and Annie fighting. Other times she says things that are totally nonsensical. I think their brains are just still processing so much stuff while they sleep!!! I am cracking up that he yells out TOYS! happily!!

Oh. HAHA.This started happening a few months ago with Nick. We, too, still use a monitor. The first experience we had with this was shortly after he got a toy (Percy) train, he yelled out, "CHOO-CHOO" in his sleep. I laughed. That was followed by a discussion of "paw prints" in the car while he was sleeping. Since then we've had further discussion about Thomas, Daddy and PLAAAAAAAAAAY(ing). The other night, however, he was having a bad dream and was calling for me (MOMMY!) in his sleep. I had to wake him up to calm him down and then he just looked at me, smiled, and went back to sleep. My favorite is when he GIGGLES in his sleep. Must be good stuff.

My mother says my brothers and I used to talk to each other in our sleep - we would carry on nonsensical conversations through the wall. Downside to all the humor? I STILL talk in my sleep, ALL of it is comprehensible and is is HUGELY embarassing when I am at meetings and they room me with someone.
I've only talked in MY sleep a few times. Once in college about an orange shirt (a project we were working on). My Husband, however, is a BIG sleep talker. It's actually rare in adults (he recently googled it) for it to be habitual. It amuses the pants off of me though.HBV; imagine the sleep conversations about trains if they were in the same room! LOL

Jessica talks in her sleep fairly often as well. I have heard her talk about our cat and have heard her say "one more time," etc. in her sleep. I am a sleep talker as well, but as often since I have gotten older. My husband does it too. I once heard him say "put some paper in the printer" - I guess he had work or something on the brain.
Just this morning, I thought it funny, because A was talking in his sleep last night, and he doesnt' even really talk yet! But I caught a clear Da Da last night. Usually, it's just giggling. He usually giggles around 4 or 5 am. LOVE IT! We went through a period of night terrors/growing pains. UGH. HATE THOSE. Haven't had problems lately, but the past weekend was pretty crazy with lots of stimulation and late bedtimes. Last night, he had a nightmare maybe aobut an hour after he went down - I went in finally to check on him, as I could tell his strange cries and mumblings were starting to sound more lucid, as if he were waking. He was sitting up when I got in to him. I don't know that he was really awake, so I simply shushed and rubbed his back until he finally laid back down and went off to sleep. Only thing that seemed to make a difference in the period when we were having those terrors and bad nights a while back was - seriously here - prayers to St Dymphna before/at bedtime. I think it was McNally who told me she is the patron saint for sleep disorders....
