What is everyone planning on doing this year? Since Halloween is on Wed this year we are going to cut trick or treating short. The kids will get to be out about 45 minutes before we have to head to church. Our church is making it easier on the kids though, they are going to be allowed to wear their costumes to church, providing they are not offensive. The teachers are going to give a goodie bag to each child in class. We do not 'celebrate halloween", so speak, at church, but to be fair to the kids, this seemed the best solution. Any others doing this?
We will be going to our town square for a community party which ends an hour before church starts. I'd rather my kids not go in their costumes, but they probably will since we won't have much time before hand to clean them up. :)

I agree, going to church in constume is not really what any of us want, but it will make things easier. And some kids won't even be able to trick or treat because of the time frame of when parents get off work and such, so handing out alittle candy at church will make them happy. I just don't want the kids to complain about going to church instead of trick or treating. Church is and should be the center of our lives. Who cares if the kids are dressed up, as long as they are at Church learning God's Ways!
We have "trunk or treat" at our church. We had it last night, though. The kids all enjoy it. We decorate our trunks (or back of our vans, as most drive mini-vans) and the kids walk around and "trunk or treat." Then we go in and have a meal and games. My kids really enjoyed it! And for me, the whole costume thing just makes the boys potty breaks harder! ;)
I forgot to tell you, I have friends who are going to take their kids out for about 30 minutes before church starts, then just take their kiddos to church in their costumes, too.
My boys love the trunk or treat. A lot of churches around here have it. It is a lot of work, but it's fun, and worth it to see the kiddos having so much fun, and in a safe environment, too.

We haven't trick or treated (tricked or treated? whatever) in years and years. Our kids have never celebrated Halloween. We do have a tradition, however. When the candy goes on clearance on Nov. 1st we always get some and the kids get to have Clearance Candy.
Our church has on occasion, but not this year, had a Reformation Day Feast. We do the research on Martin Luther and his 95 Theses and his challenge to the papacy. My sister and her friends found information on food from that historical period and tried to make the feast as close to authentic as possible. The families have really enjoyed that in the past, from the little ones on up to high school age and beyond. Some of the food is pretty interesting! Hm. We'd better start thinking about this for next year. LOL
Barks, thank you SO MUCH for being so nice in your post! Some people wouldn't be able to get their point across and still sound so friendly. :)
I used to feel very bad about halloween. Now I separate it and allow my kids the fun of trunk or treating at church. It's a choice that works for hubby and I.
I LOVE going to Hallelujia parties. I do think kids should be able to dress up for those too, if they like. I just don't support any gory or devil costumes (my choice, so please do not be offended anyone who uses a devil costume for your kiddos).
bajj,
Our children attended their first "trunk or treat" about three ago years and loved it! Some people at church had their trunks decorated so beautiful and the adults, as well as the children enjoyed it. The church also served drinks, soups and sandwhiches along with candy for the children.

Our church moved midweek activities for everyone to tonight instead of tomorrow night in order to free families up to do what they wanted to do. And we're having a Family Festival on Friday night.
