Hello everybody.
Besides the reasons of (1) child climbing out of the crib and (2) crib needed for 2nd baby, what reasons do you have for when to take your child out of crib and into a toddler bed?
My son is 2, sleeps 12 hours a night, goes to bed with no problem and never tries to get out of the crib, so I'm trying to decide when and why to go the toddler bed.
thanks
Jenna

We keep dd in her playpen (long story) till she was 31m. She too was sleeping great. What made us decide was we found out we'd be adopting a toddler (21m) and asumed she was still in a crib, but then we found out she was already in a toddler bed and doing well. so we kinda felt bad that dd was still in a crib/playpen. also thought we should make the change before other one comes. So we bought them matching big girl beds and made the switch...I was so scared that she wouldn't take but she did great. She was going thru a ruff patch of sleeping but did great in her new bed. We did a twin with a bed rail. She likes it better and sleeps great 90% of the time. So we really never 'had' to, but thought it's going to happen some time....
side note: in a sleep book I read (sleep sence) the auther said don't even think abou it till they are 2.5yo...but I know lots do it before then.

The boys started climbing in and out of their cribs so we went to twin beds. Bear was already almost 3 ft tall, so we skipped the toddler bed altogether. We felt it was just another expense that could be avoided if they went right to the twins we would have to buy within the next 6 months anyway.
Our DD is extra tall for her age (37+ inches at 23 months). She is really too tall for the crib (danger of falling out if she leans over the railing). However, she has NEVER tried to climb out of the crib so far. We have purchased a toddler bed and have it in her room, but she is resistant to stay in it. She acts like she is scared to sleep in it by herself or for us to leave her unless she is asleep. Right now we are not pushing the issue and have continued with the crib. I think if your kid is happy in the crib they will let you know when they are ready to move out. Another problem for us is that DD also thinks that the toddler bed is the place to jump. I don't know where she gets this, but she always wants to stand and jump as she yells "JUMP JUMP JUMP!" When we tell her "No" and try to get her to stop she then says "HOP HOP?" I guess we just aren't ready for the big girl bed yet :o
Oooh Snaps! Just noticed your new ticker! Congrats! On to the OP - AP is 25 months old. He doesn't try to climb out, and sleeps great. He's 36.5 inches tall - I always find him squished up on one corner of the crib, figure he'll do the same in a bed. I'm keeping him in there as long as possible!
