We have adopted 2 children from Russia and my husband really wants to adopt one more. I'm very reluctant to adopt from Russia again with one reason being the dossier requirements were so strenuous and time-consuming. The thought of doing all the paperwork again makes me shudder. (And they keep making it more difficult .)
So my question is what are the dossier requirements like for Bulgaria? I saw a travel program a few months ago on Bulgaria and have become fascinated with the country.
Thanks,
Liz

Much easier! Not as easy as Guatemala, but much easier than Russia or Kaz.
As of last year it consisted of some forms you just need to sign, the usual FBI and chid abuse clearances, your homstudy, a medical from your doctor stating that you are free of communicable diseases, HIV, TB, Hepatitis B, venereal diseases, alcoholism and drug abuse and physically and mentally fit to parent a child (do not need a psychologist just your MD), and that is about it. I have not heard of any changes to the requirements over the last year.
For Bulgaria you do not go to court. It is done for you after your visit trip. Time from visit to pickup is 2 1/2 - 3 months. Referrals are expected 6 - 8 months after dossier submission.
Bulgaria is a great place to go!

I recived my dossier paperwork last week and I have completed everything but my homestudy uptate and my FBI clearnace. We had a current I-171 H so we just have to update it before it expires. It is VERY simple. We adopted from Kazakhstan last year and it took us three months to complete what we called the buracratic scavenger hunt. The prize was worth it all, yet with our little bundle of joy I could not imagine completing such a large dossier again.
