A woman who got pregnant after a one-night stand wanted to give up the baby without telling her parents or the father.
Do you think the father has the right to know?
I think he does, because he may want to bring up the child himself, and I think living with one biological relative is better than with an adoptive family.
I'm worried about the baby. I'm sure some people here are in the same situation (where no one knows you exists, except your bmom) and I can't see how its beneficial for anyone, except maybe that way its easier for the first mom to move on.
What do you guys think?

As long as the father is not a creep...meaning ex-con, sex offender, etc. I believe the father has every right to know and have the option to raise the child if the mother carries it to term.

I think the father has a right to know - unless that knowlege poses a risk to the child. (I.E. abusive, rapist, hard crimes etc)

Yes! Every father has a right to know, regardless of their criminal background/history. If they are, in fact, unfit to parent...then the courts need to make that decision...it is not up to people who are financially or emotionally motivated by the outcome to decide who is fit and who is not.

I think the father does have a right to know.
My bmom told my bdad she was pregnant, he offered to marry her but she said get lost and moved away, he never knew I even existed when I contacted him and was so upset about it all, he said he would have fought for me. He was so happy to hear from me and we have a wonderful relationship and I have 2 new sisters who have totally accepted me along with his wife.
He cries on the phone thinking how he never had the chance to hold me and take care of me.

Absolutely!!!! If the mother wants to give that child up, the first person who should be consulted is the father. He is just as much a parent of that baby as she is, like it or not, and has every right to be given the choice as to wether he wants to raise that baby.

NO IF ANDS OR BUTS! It took 2 to make this child....it is up to the courts to decide what if anything is to be done to a person whom has had criminal background activity. Being told you are going to be a parent has changed alot of people ...to become better! I am a firstmom and would NEVER not tell the father to be....if I were choosing to not keep the child, the father should be given a choice to do so...JMHO, for whatever that is worth.:coffee:
