I was just wondering what you all felt was the ultimate toy that your son just has to have for Christmas? Or for those of you with older boys what is it that they "must" have?
I do know for my 7 year old is is all about Lego Mars Command Center and all the pieces that go with it. It is all he talks about.
Now my 3 year old it doesn't matter....its whatever he sees at that particular moment.

Legos are high on the list. My 10 year old really wants the Remote Control Flying Insect, as with other things like this, it will likely be short lived.
My DS has been courting this huge remote control SUV at WalMart since July. We must visit it every time to go to WalMart...and we go at least weekly. DS is only 4, has poor fine motor skills, and the SUV has an age of 8+...but Santa decided he would get it anyway...it is his main gift this year and he will be thrilled. Mommy is not thrilled having the huge thing in her house but the joy DS will get from it is worth it!

All I can figure out is that it must:
1) make lots of noise on its own, or cause the boy child to make lots of noise for the item
2) involve movement of some sort
3) have add on pieces that cost as much as the original toy, and that will no longer be available by next Christmas
4) have the potential to create havoc in some way (Yes, even legos...ever stepped on one barefoot? Dh doesn't swear, but this brought him to the brink. I held my breath it was ***that*** close! LOL)
dragon, my 8 yr old is also big on the Mars legos stuff this year.
Both he and the 11 yr old wants the Terrainiac RC vehicle.
Both boys are still big time into Bionicles.
My 11 yr old is also into Heroscape now.
Bug pounced on Santa's lap and declared that he wants a monster truck...nothing else.
DH wants them to have the Smart Cycle...because "they" really want it. I call it a "my first video game" and refused to get it. DH called his mom and expressed how much they LOVED it when they saw it in the store on display. Of course she got it. I suppose it could be worse...she could have bought DH a video game system that he says WE want.

Grandmas.....they get their grandsons what they want?....lol
That is how he now has several (didn't know that there are 12 different sets to lego mars) pieces of lego mars thanks to grandparents....lol
Noise is certainly a requirment as per my youngest...the more is better. But then dh likes that too....lol
I actually got dh a megatron from transformers and my 3 year old was with me....you can imagine...no secret here. Dh loves toys as much as the boys.
Let's see....
1. Full size, crew cab, 4x4 pick up truck
2. 55" LCD HD TV
3. Blue Ray DVD Player
4. Panasonic "Tough Book" Laptop computer
5. New table saw
6. Palm Treo Smart phone
Oh.....wait a minute....this is my list.:eyebrows:
You did ask for "Ultimate Toys for Boys"
My boys would like your list an awful lot Ed!! LOL!
However, I can't afford insurance on the truck for a 7 8 & 10 year old, so guess that's out.;)
Science stuff is big this year for my 10 year old. Anything he can build, create, blow up...
Remote control trucks/cars
Action figures
And this year was our introduction to "I don't want little kid stuff anymore eventhough I'm only 8." "I want that expensive ipod nano like a 14 year old gets" Welcome to "Mom's World of Interpretation";)
Michelle - I saw that flying insect thing at Target (think it's the same one...looks like a dragonfly?) I thought it was cool until I realized the body is made out of styrofoam. What in the world were they thinking??? My kids would break that just getting it out of the box! lol!

Thanks crick, that sounds really cool. I will have to check that out but I do understand how some toys just aren't made like they used too.
Ed....what a great list! Hope santa brings you everything!
I like Ed's list. If Santa brings your stuff, Ed, be sure to let us know so we can come play at your house.
