Hmmm, not sure if this is good or bad...DS is just over 15 months. I need advice from some experienced potty trainers please!!! Sorry it got long...Last week I bought DS a potty and put it in the bathroom just for him to get used to seeing it, no intentions of potty training yet.He is a total give away when he has to poo, he wiggles and squiggles like he's got ants in his pants. And ever since he was really little (3 or 4 months) he would push and poo on command, I know, weird! He also poos on a pretty close daily schedule (3 to 4 times a day!).Well after breakfast this morning, he was being a wiggle worm in his chair so I asked "do you want to poo on your potty?" He shook his head yes and said "poo poo pot". I took off his diaper, put him on, said push, and voila! DH and I clapped and all. He got up, pointed and said poo poo and clapped! Holy cow. Total fluke? Later in the morning I was giving him a bath and not really paying attention to what he was saying, but I think he said poo poo, got into a squatting position and pooed. We had company in the afternoon (Bfam visit! Yay!) and DS followed the little girl to the bathroom, then went back 3 or 4 times. Of course, once again I was not paying close enough attention to what he was saying. But he had gone in his diaper. So tonight just before I put PJs on, I asked him if he wanted to pee in the potty and he shook his head yes. I took him in, but I was slow getting his pants and diaper off. He started going pee just before I sat him on but did go in the pot some. Stood up, pointed "pee pee", clapped...DS is a pretty intelligent kiddo for his age, follows 3 step commands, tries to say all sorts of words, total copycat, and shows logical thinking. He is the one that is showing the interest in the potty and I think he is communicating his need to go to me, but I do have to pay very close attention.Sooo... am I setting up for failure if I continue to try to 'train' him now at 15 months? or should the pot 'disappear' for a while? If I should keep on, should I try a training pant or something so I am faster? Should I just let him go when he wants to try? Should I ask him more often? :confused:OR am I just giving myself a big headache! :arrow:Please all opinions are needed! Thanks Ladies!

If it were me and he is showing interest I would try it. Kelcee did this for awhile then it stopped for awhile and now we are back to using the potty. So, you might go thru something like that. If you aren't forcing it what does it hurt that he might potty train early? If you don't care if it only is for awhile, but it could be for good, then do it.

My youngest started pooping on the potty when she was 15 months old. Like you, I did not start with the intention of potty training her. She just kept pooping about the same time every evening in the bathtub. So I initially started putting her on the potty before bath and she would go. She would ask to sit on the potty at other times throughout the day, sometimes successful and sometimes not. Again, no presure, just let her sit when she asked to go or would ask if she had to go if she had that look. She ended up potty training herself just under a week when she was 19.5 months old. All of a sudden one week she would say she had to go and would hold her pee or poo until we found a potty when we were out. She was keeping her diaper dry during the day and suddenly she was potty trained!
Sorry for the long response, but just wanted to share my experience. I'd say the same as the previous two posters. Keep it casual and fun and if he is into the potty then go for it!
Thanks!I was not sure as I have always heard that you need to commit to doing it or don't do it and that if you start too young it will backfire. I should know better! lolAKMoma - great experience! I hope for that :) lolAnyway, I guess we will just keep it casual, ask and if he wants to, we'll try. If not, no biggie. Just get him used to the idea. He has went a few times in the past 3 days but I am too slow! From the monent I say "do you want to go potty" If he does he will start pushing right away. So by the time I have him on the pot, he is at least half done. I guess we don't really have the concept just yet!M
