Hello Everyone,
I'm searching for an agency in which my DH and I can afford. Has anyone worked with Abrazo in San Antonio specifically with the african american infant adoption? Please PM your thoughts on the agency. I'm interested in knowing about whether or not you were pleased with the kind of preparation they offered bm's, background information you were given on child and parents, fees, wait time - basically any insight you want to share, I'd love to hear.
Thanks so much!!

Hey! Glad to see I am not the only old timer on here! LOL! Things are good. We have finally decide to give it another try after 3 years of mending our broken fence, and I must say life is great! We are hoping to start again soon just exploring agency vs foster/adopt options. How are things with you? Sad to see that the other place has been shut down

I know where some of the other oldtimers have gone to if you want to catch up with them. Just let me know if you are looking for anyone in particular and I'll round them up. Some folks are giving the forums a break and just enjoying parenting.
Great to hear you worked things out. I was worried about you the way things happened. Just know we're here to support you and things have changed a little bit on the adoption front. The wait times have gotten longer and the fees higher.
Are you still overseas? Have you gotten your homestudy completed?
Hi!! so good to read you are back on the road. :-)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back! I honeslty missed it.
Sleeplvr- We moved to Texas and bought a house about 11mths ago, I really had to get use to being back in the good old USA (I missed it too especially take out LOL!) We are still looking for a homestudy provider and trying to figure out the private vs fost/adopt option. I guess the good thing is that we have already been thru most of this before so we kinda know what to expect... You were not kidding so many things have changed in the adoption world and OMG the fees have increased drastically over the years.
When we adopted they were rushing homestudies of AA families because they would have babies waiting in cradle care. We put in our formal application in the end of February 2005 and DD was born mid May. Now AA families are waiting around 6-9 months and longer if they specify gender. We were the only family open to gender and everyone else was waiting for a girl. The SW thought we would end up with a boy but we ended up with a girl through them.
I heard Texas is a good state for foster to adopt. They will probably be able to help with placing a child of the particular ethnic background you were seeking.

Over the course of five years that we tried to adopt and worked with both international and domestic agencies, I have notices a jump across the hole range in agency fees over the last two years. Which with everything that is happening with the economy does seem off. I would think that the number of couples thinking of adopting would be declining due to the higher fees and current economic times. I know with the resent adoption of my lovely baby girl, one of the first questions which seems to come up is how much did it cost us.... only to follow with a really that much, after we tell them. Does anyone have an idea as to way the increase in adoption fees in a time where we as a national are in a recession
