Anyone using flouride toothpaste yet?
At K's 15 month check-up, the Ped said we could start using a low flouride toothpaste. I found one. I mentioned it to a couple friends who have two year olds and they still do not use toothpaste at all, just a tooth and gum cleanser. They said not until the child can spit.
The water we buy does not have flouride in it. Should I be using the low flouride toothpaste at all, even sparingly? K does not spit yet. I have heard of flouride drops to add to water. Anyone done those?
Michelle
Kelcee was about 2 when we started using a children's toothpaste. They say should know how to spit it out before you start that kind of toothpaste.

We still use the Oral-B Toddler Training Toothpaste which is fluoride free. DD still swallows too much to use a fluoridated paste.
We don't have fluoride in our water, so we've used fluoride drops (1 drop/day) since apporx. 6 months (by Rx from the Ped). I plan to stick with those until she's ready for the tablet version.
Although we're nowhere near ready to make the transition, I'd also be interested in hearing when others made the switch to fluoridated toothpaste.
We use the Oral B as well. We don't have flouridated water (we're on a well) , so I use Nursery flouridated water that he drinks in juice or straight.
I was just thinking the other day - he doesn't spit well enough yet to switch, but is it really harmful to have it in the toothpaste, if he's not getting it any other way? Is there a difference between the added flouride in the water and what's in the toothpaste?
I was wondering the same, Stork. I did just buy that nursery water (now that she is almost 18 months!) the other day.
