Has anyone heard of a MAPP class that is offered as
full day for several Saturdays to speed the process up?
I am in Pasco County and someone told me that they have heard of a class like this, but I haven't had any luck trying to find one.
That was how we took our MAPP classes back in 04. They don't do it really often. We had to go to a different county to do it but timewise - it was worth the drive. I do better getting it done - I'm not a drag it out person.
So yes, they do have them. Call your licensing agency and ask if there are any scheduled and for the numbers for adjoining county agencies to see if they have any scheduled. I think they only schedule them when they have enough interest.
Good luck and Bless you for taking this bumpy road. But if you look at it the right way - it is very rewarding and fullfilling.

Try YMCA. That is where we took ours about a year ago. They did it for 8 hours on Saturday's for three weeks I think. They do a lot of them like that, we had people from all counties drive in for it. At the time it was held at the YMCA in Valrico. It is the Campo Family YMCA if you look it up on the internet. I can't remember the name of the women that taught the class, but that is the YMCA that she works out of. Give them a call. I am sure they can help.
We took the Saturday all day classes back in September 2006. All we did was call the agency who held the classes and they set us up.
I just completed on the 9th Saturday MAPP Classes we went 9am til 4pm for 5 weeks. That's here in Duval County though offered through the Boys Home. I believe they have one starting soon.

Thankyou so much for the info, but I don't think I am near Duval County. I am close to the Tampa ones so I am going to try those. Everyone on this forum is so helpful I really appreciate it!!
Check not only your county but your surrounding counties, usually the classes are districtwide and may be available to you in a neighboring county. I did my classes on Saturdays for 5 weeks in the next county up, it only took me 30 minutes to get there so it was well worth it. I would have never would've had the time to do it afterwork.
Congratulations on your decision to foster!!! Welcome the beginning.
I am just starting this process and am already frustrated. We are looking to foster with the intent of adopting a daughter. I wanted to take the Saturday class and found one in Hillsborough, but I live in Pasco County. They are willing to let me take the class, but does that mean that we will not be able to adopt out of another county including the one that we live in. I have already left two messages for the Pasco County agency and they do not return my calls. Can anyone advise me why it should make a difference where you take the Mapp class if it is the same class everwhere?
Classes are typically done the same statewide. We had SEVERAL people from different counties take the class in our county. It did not affect where they foster or adopt from. Just the classes were taken in our county. Their county's agency did their homestudy etc. and they were good for their county AND surrounding counties.
Here in my state, we are licensed foster for the state. We can take any child in from any county in the state and trust me, we get calls from counties 3-4 hours away if they are in need.
