Hello all,
Does your family have any prayers or activites you do during Lent?
Next week at a Moms meeting this will be the topic. I am eager for some ideas to start with our family at home.

Our parish does soup dinners on Fridays after Stations of the Cross. I was thinking about trying to do that at least a few times this year.

Growing up, we were always encouraged to "Give ourselves and our time". For me that meant volunteering with the seniors in our small town twice a week. They had to haul drinking water, so thats what I did at first. 1 liter jugs to the seniors, then I started doing vacumming and little things for them. I did this from the time I was about 6 until I left home for my lent project.
As a Mom, I would like do do the same sort of idea with my childern. Giving up something, like sweets, is always good too, but I think I learned a valuable lesson giving of my time. I want to start this year (DS will be about 18 months) by just going to the seniors home as a family and visiting. As he gets older we can maybe bake them cookies or do some other age appropriate activities that will help him learn to give of his time.
