My husband and I adopted a 5 yr old boy from Guatemala 2 years ago and had a wonderful experience. We now have our bio son, age 9, and our adopted son, age 7, and are looking to adopt another boy, preferably around age 5 or 6. Since Guatemala is now out of the question, we are looking at Kazakhstan. Just wanted to find out a couple of things: 1. What are the best regions in the country to work with (where things go faster) and the regions where the children get the best care? 2. We are looking at a small agency called Hope for Families and wanted to find out if anyone has used them to adopt from Kazakhstan? Please PM me with any information. Thanks.
I do not know how to answer everything you asked, but I do know a little about Kaz. I adopted my 10 year old son from there last year.
As to regions, that may be hard to judge. I only know Petropavlovsk, my region. You should check out the Yahoo group for Kazakhstan adoptive parents, as it gets a lot of traffic.
Petropavlovsk is a good region in that the orphanages there are pretty good, from my observation.
I have not heard of that agency, but that's neither good or bad. You will get more info there from the Yahoo board.
Good luck!

The regions will all depend on what agency you use. It would be better if they worked in more than one, just incase an area closes.
We were in Astana and thought that the baby house was great. It is my understanding that most if not all orphanages are well maintained.
As for one region being faster then others, I am not sure. Our total trip was 54 days (in 2006). But things may be taking a bit longer because there are more families traveling to Kaz. Almaty has increased there time because it is taking longer to receive a court date.
Good Luck
The baby house in Kostanai is fantastic, but I hear it is now 3 trips. I was there in Feb-Apr 2007 and made 2 trips.
We were in Karaganda in 07 and thought the care in the baby house was great. It was only up to age 4 though, so I have no personal experience with the older baby house there.
Best of Luck, Kaz is a great country!
We want explain our experience in adoption in Kaz.
We are very happy to choose this country. You can see all this in the blog
