Can anyone give an update on this bill which would allow adoptees 18 years and older to get the original birth certificate? From what I have found it appears that there was a hearing yesterday but I can't find out any more info.
I would contact Senator Days' office to find out if the bill is going to get an executive session and what its chances of moving are. Senator Days can be reached at:
Capitol Office:
State Capitol Building
Room 220
Jefferson City, Missouri 65101
Phone: (573) 751-4106
FAX: (573) 751-0467
You can also send her an email from her website:

The hearing for this bill was last Tuesday Feb. 26th. About 7 people gave their testimonies to the Committe -including me.
Our biggest challenge and opposition comes from the Missouri Catholic Chapter.
I received messages from the leader of our support groups in the KC Metro area:
She wrote:
"Sen Days made her remark that this SB 1132 is NOT a re-union bill...but about adoptee rights to have this info.
"Same with Rep Davis HB 1758.
thanks for asking...write those letters brief and to the point (but not rude) and send a pic of yourself..gives them a face to put on it."
Before that, I wrote:

I am willing to put another package together and send it to the committee so that we explain in more detail our situation and support our arguments.

Also collecting support on a form designed with all the specific details so that we can give to the senators in the committe and have their OK for the bill.

How does this sound to you?

Carolyn also replied:
I think a concise 'form' would be great. petition type form is good also, shows more names in favor/ or opposed.
This am Ina spoke with Sen Ds office and was told Chair Champion was going to ask her cmte to vote next wk...so hopefully it will pass out.
ALSO...she spoke with Speaker Jetton legis aide and was told HB 1758 was sent to Rep Ward Franz, chair of Family services, to put on hearing schedule.
so things are moving fast (sorta)
Thanks for your replies, I will definitely contact Senator Day's office.
Is there a suggested "content" for the letters that we need to write? My husband is actually the adoptee, we recently (just 2 weeks ago) found his birth mother's family with the help of the EMLA searchers and all we had to go on was his birth name and the non-id. There isn't enough info to conduct a search on his father and no one in his mother's family remembers anything that could help. The only chance we would have in finding anything would be the original Birth Certificate, so we will do what we can to support this.
