NPR has been doing some interesting stories about preschoolers and imaginative play---the researchers have found a strong link between this kind of play and self regulation. Here's the story link:

Thank you, HBV. I love it!!! For a long time, I have been "crowing" about how imaginative DD is and how her "play" is so funny. Like every night we get on a rocket ship (under our covers) and go to different places with different people.
But I was starting to "worry" that she wasn't learning letters and stuff. But I firmly believe (my opinion only!) that intelligence comes from figuring out cause and effect, imagination, etc. and not memorization.
