UGH! I can't believe I have to renew my I-600A and my fingerprints. I never thought it would take this long. And why is finding out how to do this such a state secret? Thank God, I don't have to pay for the one time renewal.
Anyone else in my boat?
We just renewed our fingerprints. When we did I asked how to renew the I600A since ours will expire this summer. We were told that it's easy, just fill out another I600A application and either submit it in person or by mail. We're lucky, we have a small USCIS office here in our town so it's really easy to get information.

Lucinda,
Did they send you something saying your fingerprints were expiring or did you go down to the USCIS office yourself and ask how to proceed? Are you going to let your I600A expire before you send it your new application? Do you have to get your homestudy updated?
Thanks.
I had been keeping track of the expiration dates so we took our 171-H down to the USCIS office and asked them what to do. They only used the 171-H for informational purposes and then gave it back to us. They weren't busy so they went ahead and did our fingerprints while we were there. You just need to fill out the same information form that you did the first time. Our social worker had already sent in an update since it needs to be done yearly here in Washington. (That was just a quick phone call to see if anything had changed and she shot off the update to USCIS.) As far as letting the I600A expire, I was told by the clerk who helped us that the renewal can be done anytime since our new fingerprints are on file now. We don't intend to let it expire and will file the new paperwork within a couple of weeks of it actually expiring. Doing the renewals is very easy since we are already in the system.

USCIS changed their fee schedule last summer and you can now get one free refingerprinting and one free 171H renewal as long as you do it before it expires. Here is the USCIS link that talks about it. http://www.uscis.gov/files/pressrelease/PAPChanges080607.pdf
