We are in the Poplar Bluff area, finished classes in May licensed may 22 had 2 foster sons placed with us that very day.Still have them ages 2& now 9.Still working towards RU but looking very far into the future for that to happen.Meanwhile we are fulltime working on our original plan to adopt legally free or low risk placemnts.
I am from SE Missouri and been fostering for a year. We have our third placement with us. She has been with us several months but the other two placements were short.
I can't say that our experience has been very positive. Its one thing to hear about it in class and another to actually live with the frustration of busy schedules, complaining and lying bio-parents, CW who never returns phone calls, or when the CW does call its to rush in and do the obligated visit to get the paperwork in at the last minute regardless of your schedule, etc. I expected it to be hectic but I didnt expect it to be sooooo frustrating!
However, when we get past that and concentrate on what a difference we already see in our FD, the response we get from her teachers, counselors, etc that great changes are going on (that hopefully will stick after RU) then I remember why we are doing this in the first place.
Good luck to you!
well i dont know about the adoption process because the idiots didnt sign me up for it when i asked them too but somehow got me in the stars classes so i have to get signed up for spaulding now but anyways session 9 it will be a whole bunch of ppl coming in talking to you and they will give a lot of helpful resources you can use to get free clothes and stuff for the kids and other helpful stuff then your licensing worker will continue to come out and go over your homework and collect it then once she is all done getting the homework from each session they will do a final walk through of your home make sure it is child proof and make sure you have running water and the toilet flushes and look in your fridge then they want to see the child room and then she is done she will type up a homestudy report on you and the license should come in the mail then normally your license worker comes out 30 days after your first placement. Right now im in the waiting phase im waiting for my license to come in the mail.
Not from Missouri but NE Arkansas. I go to Malden and Popalr Bluff all the time. I grew up in Campbell.
Glad to see some people from my area on here. (btw we are adopt only, but I think we are done now)

We are in Cape Girardeau County and have been foster parents for the past 2 1/2 years. We had two boys placed with us the day we completed STARS and have shared our home with approximately 30 children since. We are licensed for up to 6 children and ages 0-18.
Currently we have a two year old girl and four teen age girls with another 14 year old girl coming today. We have had good relationships with all our caseworkers. I would advise you to get your toes wet first and see how you like it; there definitely is a culture shock.....for the children and for you, too! Life will never be quite the same for you.
Be proactive, don't be afraid to ask questions, establish a good relationship with your trainers. It is fulfilling but also demanding. We found it necessary with the number of children and especially with teens for one of us to be at home. Good luck to you and God Bless You!
