My DS will be 10 months this week. For the last 3-4 weeks, we have had the problem of him waking up anywhere from 30 minutes to a hour into his bedtime. He cries (really cries with tears) and kicks his feet.
My DH or I have to go pick him up, because he will not calm down by himself, and rock him for usually less than 5 minuted because he falls right back to sleep and we can lay him down. He will stay asleep for the rest of the night after that.
Is it because he's reaching milestones or could he just be having nightmares? I really don't know. His dr said it could be how I am laying him down, but that doesn't make sense to me. I can lay him down fine and he will sleep for a while, then he wakes up.
I am at a loss! Please help!
Our DD went through this at around 11 months. It was a nightmare. We tried everything. Laying her down earlier, laying her down later, feeding her later, putting in a night light, etc.
It went on for about three weeks and we were at our wits end. One nurse would say we needed to make her go to sleep on her own because she'd forgotten how to put herself to sleep, while a doctor would say it could be night terrors and my Mom swore it was just teething.
We don't really know what it was, but after three weeks of it, she settled right back in and was fine. The other feedback I got from parents was that babies seem to go through this stage for whatever reason and then just snap out of it.
