So......my boys are getting older now - J is 9 already! Q is 6-1/2!I still rub on the boys' lotion every day - though am wondering when J will get too old for his mama to do it! I've asked, but he still wants me to do it. Anyway, we've tried many lotions over the years, but it's difficult with J's eczema - to find something that doesn't irritate his skin and dry him out more. When J was younger, Aveeno oatmeal baby lotion worked great, now......not so much. Last year I started using Huggies Shea Butter lotion - which I've heard has not worked well with other AA kids, but seems to be okay with the boys.....until now. It works great with Q, but Q is also Asian/AA and has softer skin -soft as a baby's butt! J is very dark skinned and with his eczema, much of his skin is rough and almost scaly. He also has some very bad scarring on his arm from an accident a couple years ago. Now I've been using Palmer's cocoa butter formula - it's really thick, like a waxy paste - on J's cheeks, knees, elbows and scars for a while now. I also put it on his hands and feet sometimes because they get so dried out and scaly. But now J's complaining because it's so greasy feeling. And it is, but it does eventually soak into the skin. So I'm wondering if any of you with older kids have any lotion suggestions? Like I said, Q seems to do fine with the Huggies Shea Butter lotion, but J needs something....more, KWIM?Thanks,Sandy

No older children but DH is AA. We have never found anything he really really liked to use until our last trip to Disney. They have H2O in the rooms and it is wonderful for those with dry skin! A bit pricy but well worth it for him anyway. :) Disney Resort Collection Another thing that he does use is Gold Bond I think it is intense therapy. I will chek with him to make sure the type.

I have yet to find anything that compares to Bath & Body's "Lay It on Thick Shea Body Cream". I've been looking for a substitute for about the past 3 years (due to the price and the fact that it's only available at BBW). I just checked the website and they're having a buy 2 get 1 free sale. That's a deal, this stuff never seems to go on sale.
My son suffers from very dry skin as well. Our local West Indian market sells pure shea butter. In the winter I use the shea butter on him and it works great. If he has any scratches I will use vitamin E oil to help it heal more quickly. I have had good luck with solid coconut oil, too, for the summer when his skin is less dry. Good luck

I am an AA woman with eczema. When I have flare-ups, I find that the purest products have the best results (pure cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil, etc. all w/o added scents and chemicals). Otherwise, I LOVE Lay it on Thick, Eucerin, and have used Avon Moisture Therapy (with the blue top. lol!) since I was a kid. All these are great choices for AA skin. They last all day and some of them are fairly inexpensive.
