Hi I'm popping in from the Guate board for my BIL. He is interested in initiating a search for his birth mother, and he was born in NJ in 1962. Last he tried the private agency wouldn't release any identifying info.
Anyone know where things are legally with records for private agencies in NJ? Looks like new legislation was being put forth in March of this year but I can't find the outcome...
Please PM me the info if you could.
Thanks in advance!
Samantha
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but NJ Private Agencies don't budge (most especially the Catholic Charities) You might try contacting your agency for a non-id and see if they ask you come in for it - The Catholic Charities had me come in 20+ years ago, the Sister left the room with my file on the desk - but I was so intimitated by where I was I didn't peek.
I got my idenifying info about 1 1/2 yrs ago via a Judge. He believed I have a right to my Medical(only because I had gone through my own medical issues).
Also, the Legislation that we're all waiting to pass was put up over 2 years ago and died - only to be put up again this past spring. I'm not holding my breath for it.
Although I know who my Birthmother is I want to see my original birth certificate seeing as she won't give me the name of who fathered me.
I wish you luck - NJ is a tough State, and any of those paid agencies can't get through the red tape in NJ either, especially since the Patriot Act went into effect.
