I was just curious if anyone had any experience with "holding Time" - I have tried it a few times with my DD but I'm not sure that I'm using it correctly. I have noticed differences in her behavior though just after a few uses of this technique!
I've used it and it can be very effective for some kids, especially younger ones. It does take awhile to get the hang of it. If you are seeing improvement, you likely are doing it right.

I used this with DS...from the time he was about 18 months old until he was about 2.5 years old...and a few times since. My lil' guy was AD and for him, it really helped. In fact toward the end of us using it regularly he started acting out just so I would do it...we had a little talk and he realized he could simply ask for it without the bad behaviors.

There are different schools of thought regarding holding. I definitely would not do it without bouncing it off of your therapist or depending on the child. Children with severe attachment issues can equate holding with torture as I experienced when I tried it with my RAD son. I thought if he could regress and experience touch/holding that sooner or later he would come to understand the security of a mother's hug...... It was not true for him and he broke out in a full body sweat, screamed for hours and broke my heart and spirit.
So I say this to say that understand that holding is good when the child can handle it and you will know by the child so if you have to ask if your doing it right.....there may be some issue for the child.
I hope this helps in your question......
I used holding with severe rad kids and of course they were resistant. It is very scary to have to deal with the types of trauma they lived through.
