My 1 week old baby's poo is firm and he only has went 2 times today. Is there anything I can do tonight to help him poo. I am calling the doctor tomorrow.
Sorry. I didn't come across your post until late. Sam had this problem from birth to 6 months. Dr. R at The Children's Clinic had us add a little brown Karo syrup to his bottles. Start with a teaspoon for a few bottles and if no improvement, keeping adding a little more until you know the right amount for him. It was a lifesaver. Finally, around 6 months we weaned him off but still had to use it occasionally even with him drinking watered-down pear juice by that time. He still has this problem occasioannly (even while on antibiotics!) and we just put less water in his juice so the the juice can do the work. Good Luck!

Karo is a good idea, but a 1 week old baby really is too young to give karo. I would check with the pedi first, though it isn't unual for a newbor not to poo.
Is he showing any signs of not being well or discomfort in any way?
I would give it a day or so, it could be his little intestines just getting regular.
I wouldn't rush to give him anything. Formula fed babies do not poo as often as breastfed.

I called his pediatrician today. She said to give 1/4oz pear jucie mixed with 1/4oz water. I also read online that a warm bath could help. I have tried both. (made sure his cord didn't get wet.) He is able to poop, but it is more like big kid poop (firm poop, once a day). I always though baby poop was kinda runny. (our oldest was anyway). He strains, but dosen't seem to be in pain. He goes back to the doctor Tuesday for follow up visit. I am going to talk to her more then. If it gets worse this week end I am going to try karo.
I just noticed how many times I said poop?:prop:

Our Ped had us use just a touch of high lignum flax oil in DD's bottle when she was about a week old. When she was a little older we added no sugar added prune juice. Warm water and gentle massage was also helpful when she was really little. She's 3 now, and we use high fiber cereal, apple sauce, raisins, prune juice or regular prunes, salads, exercise......
This is sort of interesting. I, too, was adopted as a newborn and I had the exact same problem. Mother used Karo and swears it worked just fine.
