Hi, most of this is a post I made on another thread and wanted to separate it to its own thread. The other part is some updated info I was kindly given by the family that is currently in the review process. A recent note from my agency in BG said that there is a separate "group" for waiting parents willing/cleared for SN children, older children, and to adopt two or more children. UPDATE: Special needs (SN) includes children 6 years or older. They said that there is only one US family listed in the MOJ's published information, on the register from 2004. That they expect a low number in the registry for 2005, and that there is currently alot of interest from US families that will be registered in 2008 and they will receive referrals in at least a year. UPDATE: the family that is currently in the review process (registered early in 2005 and is in the second group), has been in the review process for 5 weeks now. And they have learned that the new timeframe for new dossiers is about 2 years UNLESS YOU GO SPECIAL NEEDS. HTHs, K

kwien, Just a quick question to clarify...the timeframe was given by a family in the review process? How do they know? I just want to verify that this is based on actual facts and not just anecdotal. I am in canada and we have been told the wait is about 1 year after the dossier has been submitted 1.5 at the worst. I know so many go through this process and these are peoples actual experiences, but with things speeding up in Bulgaria could this be based on previous experience (eg because of joining the EU, and the old MOJ, etc.)? What have other people whos started the process in 2007 and 2008 been told about time frames?

catt13, As you go through the threads, you will see that people are being told everything from 6 months to 3 years (maybe more). Please note, I am talking about U.S. statistics and have no idea how things stand for Canada. As other posters have said, Bulgarian adoptions to other countries, especially Europe, never stopped. According to the posted stats for U.S. issued visas, they are not officially expecting more than 20 this year. ...whether that is really accurate or not will depend on how the process moves over the course of this year and how many U.S. families are registered and where they come up in the registry. As to the timeline that this family has mentioned...it is not out of the question: Many have already been waiting for 2+ years, Bulgaria is working with a list of people already in the system, and more applying. Again, please remember that this information is based on U.S. applications and may or may not apply to Canada or other countries. HTHs, K
K,I apologize if my post sounded harsh it wasnt meant to be. I am just trying to sift through all of the information just like everyone else, and sometimes during my quest for info i just ask for facts and it can be misinterpreted. Through reading many forums i definitely understand the varying timelines, and how they can extend or even shorten. I agree that nothing is out of the question, but i also think that the previous happenings in Bulgaria (EU, new MOJ, change in policies, etc.) greatly contributed to the decline in children placed and the slowing of the process. I believe that the system will pick up considering the political and social changes that have occurred, so that hopefully everyone who has submitted their dossiers will have placements soon. As far as i know the US tends to have shorter placement timeframes than Canada. So, this is definitely helpful for those waiting, but you can understand my concern and questions as if you are being told by agencies thatthe wait is 2 years who knows what it would be here. My main question was regarding the timeframe provided by the family being reviewed, and who told them that the new timeline was 2 years. I sincerely am not questioning it i am just trying to find out if this was from their own experience or whether this is new information provided by an agency(s). I know individuals who actually speak the language and have access to news that we dont in N. Am. that have also verified that things are moving along at a better rate than before. This is why i was asking about the extended timeline you mentioned. I know it must be so hard to wait for so long, and any length is unbearable, and we are in many ways left at the mercy of the system.Lastly, I am still interested in timelines given for those who have already submitted their dossiers last year or even this year, as this may also provide us with info regarding timelines given by a variety of agencies.
