We have been matched with a beautiful little girl, and we have had our first visit. THe agency says that they will take the process slowely, We understand to a certain extent, but, it is a 3 hour drive for us and $100 in gas each time also time off from my husbands work which he only gets paid half of the day. (they are not very understanding). Is there any guidelines that a state agency follows as to how long they can take for placement in our home. The longer they take the more she bonds with the foster mother. and we are not rich. We will do what we have to do but we were just wondering if anyone can offer us some advice or knowledge on this issue.

Each agency makes their own guidelines. They can pretty much do whatever they want. We are on our 7th week of weekend visits. We have been waiting 2 weeks for the paperwork to be done so placement can be done. At this rate I am just hoping placement will happen before school starts. There are no set rules it will all be based on how the child does, and how you deal with the changes. I have found that if you push the issue, they take that the wrong way. I was told that the families that push for a placement or adoption are the first families to disrupt. I don't know that I believe that, but we did decided to back off, since they hold all the cards right now.
