I was 18 at the time and had my baby at a Catholic maternity home in Philadelphia. It was either late September or October of 1968. Of course they ask you to give the baby a name so I named her Jennifer McCarthy. I have no idea if the adoptive parents kept that name or not. I am very new to all this so I don't know how things work. I have wondered about my daughter for many years, who she is, what kind of life she has. I would love to hear from you if you are searching for me.

Hi MaryEllen, So close here too! My mom was 18, from Philly, and my original last name started with an Mc too! Sadly I'm older, a vintage 1963.
Most likely your daughter's name was changed.
Do you remember if her adoption was finalized through Catholic Charities, or was it a private adoption through Philadelphia County?
Philly Catholic Charities provides search assistance. You can see their page here:

If the adoption was finalized through the County, here is their search info:
1801 Vine Street
Room 332
Philadelphia, PA 19103

Also please be sure to file at PA's parent's registry and at ISRR if you have not already done so:

Please let me know if you've already done these, and I may have some other PA resources for you.
Good luck. Don't ever hesitate to message me if you'd like to talk. It's always good to catch up with Philly folks. I'm from the Torresdale neck of the woods.
Hi, I just saw this post from 2008. I was born Oct 3 1968 at St Vincents hospital. My adoptive mother says my name was Theresa. I always thought a nun gave the name. I would be glad to talk further.
