Im looking for any information on independently adopting from Africa. I know there are some countries that allow this. My husband and I adopted a baby from ethiopia using an agency last year, but are now considering doing it independantly.
I have adopted a child from Malawi and in the process of 2 from Zamiba. I have not used any agencies.
The Orphanage here in Zambia has been very helpful. but you have to foster for 3 months which means you would need to be in Zambia for abotu 4 months.
As for Malawi, international adopted is not allowed.

Hi there,
I saw that MegiB was in the process of trying to adopt in Zambia about a year ago. I was just wondering how that went. My husband and I live in Lusaka and will be here for at least another year. We've started the process to adopt here, but aren't in contact with any Americans who are trying to adopt or who have adopted successfully.
You mentioned that you were in touch with a helpful orphanage. Which one was that, may I ask? We've been visiting the House of Moses and have been very impressed so far.
Thanks!
Can Americans adopt independently in Zambia? Ok, can you tell me how you did this, and who to contact? Thanks, Elizabeth
Hi there - we're trying to adopt independently. We've been in touch an agency in the US that might be able to approve a homestudy (here in Africa) for the I600, though we are still working on that. Otherwise, we're trying to do things ourselves. When it comes time to adopt in Zambia, we might employ a lawyer, though that isn't a pressing issue at this time.
