Not able to think about it? Surely you jest.
Since my Husband and I are currently waiting for our first, we are trying to enjoy our 'selfish' time together. Traveling, enjoying wine, sleeping in...

I am learning to knit and am knitting a baby blanket. It is lumpy and quite holey, but special since it will be my first -finished- knitted project
Other than that, thinking and dreaming about our baby:love:

During the wait for our first we both started grad school - I finished and my husband finished a year after we got home with our daughter. We also started an orphan ministry at our church with three other couples - that helped focus my attention and helped me to actually do something. In addition to that I taught full time, went to grad school, and taught piano lessons on the side. Keeping busy helped pass the time.
The wait for our second was much shorter (things at Ayudame seemed to speed up that year), so we spent the time filling out paperwork.
This wait has been by far the most difficult, though I'm not sure why - maybe because the unknowns are so big. To help with our wait, which is not nearly as long as it is for some others here, I find it especially helpful to pray daily for our children and for the peace to accept the timing as God plans it. I also read a lot - I read about adoption as well as just family life and creating the kind of home life I want my family to have. We are also enjoying every moment of the easy stage we have recently hit with our two children at home before life changes again and we spend that time in transition until we can find our new normal. And yet...I'd love to get a referral tomorrow! (Wouldn't we all!)
One thing I did while we were waiting for Anna was to start a journal for her. I wrote prayers, poems, and just general information about our adoption journey to her and our time in Bogota. That way when she is older, she can go back and read it and see how much mommy and daddy loved her and were praying for her, even before we had ever seen her!
