I was told by my agency to check out this foundation that granted a client of theirs $7000 for their adoption fees. I called them today and was told that if I wasn't Christian and already a member of a church that I'd have to form my own church and have adoption outreach ministries for me to get a grant. I explained that I wasn't Christian but they seemed a little annoyed (like I was wasting their time) and so I politely declined.
I called DH at worked and was laughing so hard. I told him we had to form a church. He said we could call it "Greenman Ministries" and we'd be the only members.
If I were Christian, I'd help everyone. After all, isn't it unchristian not to?
Check out the ULC website, I forget the url, but just Google "ULC ordinations" and it'll come right up. It's very easy to start a church Christian or non-Christian, and they will help you get started...and it's all free, doesn't cost anything.
I did it. Got ordained, founded a new religion, (even wrote up a 900 page religious manual of "what we believe"), started a church, and now I am the High Priestess of a Christo-Pagan-Mormon-Hoodoo Coven, which is American Mormonism, mixed with Scottish Hoodoo and Welsh Faerie Faith, and a little bit of SDA and Voodoo, called it a Mutli-Non-Denominational-Christo-Pagan Religion, named the church "Laughing Gnome Hollow" which has both an online church and a brick and mortar church, and has 14 members: me, my friend who is a drag queen, and my 12 cats. :)

Yes! The Church of Chocolate. I propose that the chocolate altar have a chocolate fondue fountain.
Ugh! How frustrating! It has always irked how so many resources in adoption require that you either are Christian or go to church. And you are right, they should want to help everyone!
I really like the Greenman Ministries though! Lol!
