Anyone out there adopted from Uganda? I'm considering working with Amani Baby Cottage (Jinja) and would love some insight if you've been successful in Uganda. Please PM me if you have information specific to the Amani Baby Cottage or homestudy agencies in California.
Thanks!
Country Specific Information for uganda.htm is a good place to begin looking at issues of Uganda adoption.
If you are adopting independently, working directly with an orphanage or through a foreign facilitator, be aware that not all children in orphanages qualify for immigration as "eligible orphans", under U.S. law. If you manage to adopt a child who does not qualify, you will not be able to get a visa for him/her to enter the U.S., unless you live overseas with him/her for at least two years. It is always best to work through a qualified American agency if you have limited familiarity with U.S. immigration laws.

Hi! Just wondering if you've made any progress on your decision. I sent you a PM a while ago regarding the Uganda process. Best wishes & hope it's going well. :)
Hi, I spent the summer volunteering at ABC, its a wonderful place where the children are all well looked after. I think the adoption process in Ugandan can be more difficult than other countries but I know of many success stories. I hope it all works out for you! x
Can anyone please pm of any agencies in Uganda, good or bad info, we are still in the deciding process, but would still like to stay in Africa, we were in process of processing in Ethiopia, but were told by our agency that due to my husbands DUI, over twelve years ago, that MOWA would not process our adoption, so we decided to look for another agency and at other countries. Any one ever heard of this? I thought minor criminal history were acceptable.? Thanks for any input, Elizabeth
