I'm new to this forum and I have a question about home studies. From what I have read it is best to be very honest with the person conducting a home study. This is said to help equip the person with an accurate idea of what type of child my wife and I are looking for. What types of questions should we be preparing ourselves for? Any suggestions on important things to consider when thinking about what type of child we might be looking for (other than we would like a girl, age 3-5, without special needs, either caucasian, hispanic or european)?
Thanks for your help. We are just getting our journey started.
The home study can consist of questions that cover your personal experiences through life. Everything from your childhood up through today. Some examples of the questions can be: how where you disciplined as a child? How do you think you will discipline a child today? What kind of relationship did you have with your parents as a child/ and today? etc, etc.
All of the questions are a why for the CW to get to know who you are, how you think and what kind of child might be best for you. Let's say that you have a negative response about a particular characteristic or life circumstance. Then the CW would not want to place a child with you that would have that. It's all about finding the best fit for you.
You might have a life experience that would enable you to care for a child with some type of problem that other people might turn away. It's best to figure out what you think your family can handle when it comes to behavior issues, medical issues and so forth. You should have some idea about it ahead of time. The ranges of these can be everything from needing a breathing treatment two times a day to those who have severe ADHD.
