Hi-
I'm Jen, born 10/26/1981 in Los Angeles CA. I was adopted through Children's Home Society. I contacted them, and they've told me that it'll cost me $100 to get non-identifying information.
I was originally told by my mom that my birthmother was 16 and got pregnant at a party. I was born at Queen of Angels Hospital, and adopted in November 1981. Both she and I are white, non-hispanic.
I believe, though it's not confirmed, that she was Catholic.
If anyone can help, please let me know. I'm just starting searching, and CHS hasn't been very helpful.
Thank you in advance.
Jen

I was also adopted through the CHS of Los Angeles, but way back in 1953. Last summer I requested the full background report for $100 and received it almost 3 months later -- it provided significant information about my bparents but none of it would have been useful in identifying them -- no names, no cities or locations, no dates, etc. In my case, I did know who my bparents were (both are deceased) but I was interested in learning anything new about the story behind my birth. My report was almost 5 pages long, half of which gave details of my health history during my 9 months in foster care; your report could be shorter since you were placed right away. My bparents were a little older (early 30's), so my report might have been long because there was more to write about. I felt my report was worth the fee.
CHS also has a mutual consent registry so the adoptee can be matched if a bparent or sibling has registered. I believe this service is free, but you need to have your form notarized. CHS will send you the forms.
I don't have any other advice other than to submit your information on all the online registries, including the ISRR. I was "found" by my birthdate and place -- some cousins on my bfather's side posted a query on adopteeconnect.com which I found by googling my birth information. I suspected many years ago that my bmom was not looking for me because she had died (sadly, that turned out to be true). Never give up hope that someone could be looking for you. I'm not sure if you can get information from the hospital or how you go about getting your original birth certificate -- you might find the answers in other discussions. Good luck!
