I was born in 1967. My "heritage summary" states that my BM was 24 years old, and that she was in a maternity/unwed mothers home. Someone recently pointed out to me that its unlikely that a grown woman would be in one of these homes. My paper also states that both bm and bf had been divorced.
Does anyone remember the general age of the residence of a maternity home? And what is the likelihood that both of my bparents had been divorced? I question that as from my understanding, divorce wasn't common then. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I was in a maternity home and there was a girl in there that was 22. So I would say that 24 is a definite possibility.

It wasn't unusual at all for women your birthmom's age to be in the maternity homes during the 1960's. If you want to read a great book on the subject, pick up a copy of The Girls Who Went Away by Ann Fessler.
my bmom was 21 when I was born and she was in a "home". Most would take in any age as long as they agreed to adoption.
I second the book recommendation. Excellent read!
Another question for birthmothers...
Did you or anyone at the home you were in give birth IN the home? Did you get to care for your child after you gave birth? My Heritage summary says I was born IN the materity home and my bm took care of me for 9 days before I went to foster care. Does that sound right? It also says that my bparents were 24/27 and both had been married (to other people and divorced) - how common was divorce in the mid-late 60's?
Thanks for any help you can give.
