I would like to know if 1980s birth records list the adopted baby twice...once, with the birthmother, and then again, with the adoptive parents, in the Austin micro film birth records.
If listed twice, and you know the birthmother's name, then finding the original birth certificate is easy....in Austin, but not online. Because, all the TX births are listed in alphabetical order,in Austin, and not by the date. Right?
And, if you do not have a the birthmother's last name, then you must read every birth, in TX birth records, from A-Z, looking for the birthdate and sex of child...in the year of the child's birth. Right?
How long would that take? (years???)
Do people search in the Austin Vital Records office for other people?
This is how to search in Austin, at the Vital Statistics Office...right?
If the adopted child, a boy(my example) is born Aug. 13, 1982(fake birthdate for an example), born in LaSalle County, (another example) when searching in Austin, at the Vital Records department, you would have to start with the first name listed under A, for 1982. You would need to read every A name born in Texas, for 1982. The search would continue with the B names...C names...and so forth, all the way to the last name in the Z section. If/when you find a name with the Aug. 13, 1982 birthdate, then, you must look and see what sex the baby is. If the baby is the sex you are looking for, you next check the county of birth.
So, if the birthdate, sex, and county of birth match what you are searching for, then it is a possibility.
There could be any number of boys, born LaSalle County, on August 13, 1982. One of the names may be whom the searcher is looking for.
So, my question is.....how long would this search take, if you went through to collect all names, born on the date you are looking for?

Adoptivemom,
Or you could try ancestry.com and see if they have the Texas birth index and search by date, county, name...
Kind regards,
Dickons
Thanks for your reply. Ancestry.com does have a TX Birth Index, however, 1980 adopted babies are only listed one time, and as the child of the adopted parents.
So are you saying that the 1980s birth records at the Vital Statistics office lists the birth record twice (once with the birth parent's names and then with the adoptive parent's names? The reason I'm asking is because I'm searching for my sibling that was adopted at birth in Austin, TX between August 1985 and May 1986. I have all the information on the birth parents, just none on the actual birth and the adoption, except for the fact that Lutheran Social Services of the South handled the adoption case.
I can't speak with 100% certainty, but I would be totally surprised to find out the vital records listed a person twice, meaning the original birth, and the amended adoption, even on micro film. Those records are not public records and I've never found anything like that.
Having said that, I could be wrong in some cases, but searching would probably take forever, and be more than any one person could do in a short time. Just think of the number of babies born in any given year. It would seriously be searching for a needle in a haystack, and a lot to take on. If you are searching for BPs, you might come out better searching termination of parental rights records through the county court records, but I haven't personally tried that yet, so can't say for sure if that's really possible.

Ok, from what I understand, if you have the names from the online index, then you go to the birth books at the geneology library, where they list the actual births..So, you take the two lists and compare them..If the same name is on both of the lists, then you mark that one off and go on down the line until you have the ones that do not match..and these are the ones that are adopted..This is what I am told and I am going to be making a trip to the Harris County Geneology Library to see about this..I hope this has made sense!!

Did you make a trip to the Harris County Genealogy Library?
Are you saying: Look at the names of births, male or female, born on a specific date, in specific county, in the online birth index...Then look at the same specific list, at the Genealogy Library, of the country where the birth was? Compare the lists, to find more names, on the Genealogy birth index, to see which babies were adopted...

The original birth certificates are listed, somewhere, in the TX Birth Index...maybe in Austin at the Vital Statistics Office. The births were listed twice, birth mother and adoptive parents, prior to 1970.
You are right...searching these records would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
The Birth Books are online thru a search database. Email me and I will tell you how to access. too many people dont want adoptees searching so I am not putting it on the forum.
Everyone is in the birth books, somewhere, either under birth name or amended name. the birth INDEX only has the amended names and has been programmed to show "infant of"s listed as well. IF someone was given a full name, then it is a little more difficult. if you need something looked up, send me an email at texassearchangel at gmail.com
