Hello,
I'm pleased to say that we have now gotten our I800a approval! It took 42 days from submission to approval, which was fantastic.
I've got a question for the group on Casas vs ICBF. Our agency has just scheduled a meeting with us to discuss the Casa option. They really havent shared much with us regarding Casas previously so I get the sense this is new for them. Their in-country coordinator Raul seems to have some experience, as he previously worked with another agency.
We are hoping for 2 siblings under the age of 5. I would really appreciate any thoughts/comments/experiences you have with the Casas.
- Has anyone else adopted young siblings through them? In reading the boards it seems they are more geared towards single babies.
- Does anyone have a sense of the waiting times or the process involving Casas?
- If we accept the Casa option, does that mean we are restricted to their waiting list?
I would also appreciate any suggestions on questions I should be asking my agency.
Thank you!!

Hey there! We adopted our daughter Anna from a casa last year (with the help of Raul and the old agency) and had a truly wonderful experience. Our daughter was 5 months old at placement and had been taken excellent care of by a foster family. Our waiting time for her was fairly quick too (< 18 months). We toured the entire casa while there, and the children living there (age 2 and up) seemed very well cared for, happy, and loved, and their caregivers seemed very compassionate and dedicated to the children. I'm not really sure how it works when adopting sibs from a casa, however. I know that ICBF actualy sent a lot of their kids to the casa that we adopted from. I think the questions you posed are ones that you definitely need to be asking your agency. If going through the casa limits you to the casa's waiting children list, then it seems that you might actually get a referral faster by going through ICBF.
