Need advice urgently

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's really a family decision that might be different in different situations. I think it's up to your brother primarily and he can consult whomever he wishes. I can't imagine a grandchild's funeral being a great place for a first meeting, but it's a difficult situation all around and ultimately should be about everyone supporting your brother and whatever his needs are regarding the service for his child.

There are no laws prohibiting birth parents and adoptive parents from meeting. None at all. The law doesn't care if they meet or not.

Since it is your brother's baby who died - I think he gets final say either way, period. My condolences to your family on your loss.

Oh my- I am so sorry for the loss. My heart goes out to your brother & your family. Like the other posters said- there's not a law about this. It up to the families if / when bparents & aparents meet. I agree- this is really up to your brother. Good luck.

As a bmom I cannot imagine why your bmom would ever imagine that this is the proper time and place to start a relationship with the two of you. She needs to be told no, and then you, your brother and parents need some time. I would say at least 90 days should pass before you get into any relationship with your bmom. Do not let her push you into something that none of you are ready for. You are/need to be, in control of this relationship not her.

I am so sorry for your loss. Has your brother told her specifically he does NOT want her to come? If so, I am sorry that she is insisting on coming. Like your brother (and you) needs that kind of turbulence right now. Anyway, again, I am so very sorry.

The birthmom should respect your brother's wishes. If she goes against his wishes, any chance of a relationship is completely jeopardized. As everyone else has stated, your brother is the one and only person to decide if he wants her there and if the birthmother cares about him at all she will not show up. How tragic it would be to cause a scene at his son's funeral. I hope that doesn't happen. What a horrific thing for your brother to have to bury his child. My condolences to him and the family.

If your adoptive parents have a tight relationship with your bio-parents...it should be ok. But otherwise, I would suggest your a-parents send flowers and mail a card to the home. Some boundaries just should not be crossed. Funerals are a very emotional time...proceed with caution.

Gatorb8 - I think you meant B-parents should send flowers and a card, not a-parents. I really think that before the funeral, bmom needs to be set straight. Your brother made it clear he does not want her there and she needs to respect that. Can you talk some sense into her? I really hope this turns out better than it seems like it will. When my mom died My daughter and I had been in reuion for 4 years ........ she had met my mom and loved her dearly. But other family members had not met her yet. It was one of the hardest times in my life losing my mom... I wanted all my childern with me. But when talking to daughter she did not want this sad time in our life to be about meeting her. She did not come but I know she was in my heart and thoughts that day. I do not think that a time of loss is a time to start a reuion. I hope that your Birthmom will wait for a better time to come meet people. My thoughts and prayers are with your family now.

I see both sides of it I guess, the b-mom just wants to be there for her son, her grandchild. but I guess if none of the other family & friends know about her or has met her yet, and if the son has told her he would like her to wait for a better time to meet the rest of the family, then I agree, his feelings on the matter should be respected. but if is just all about what the A-parents wants or demands are, then I think that is being very controlling and selfish on their part, and they should not be allowed to dictate who will be allowed to attend.who is it that you think would call the police ? and why would someone do that ???just because someone quietly attends a funeral?or is there some history of a disruption of violence in the past between the B-mom or with the a-parents ?I just don't get why the police would be involved... and why????

Ones own child is never expected to leave us, for it is un-natural to have to endure, and it is almost certain that "we' as parents will go before "our" children. Please give my sincerest condolences to your brother and his wife. As a Mother, I have only to offer what it is I truly and wholeheartedly feel...If your son does NOT wish for her to be there...then his wish is all that matters!
