How do I go about getting my 11 year old son tested for Bipolar disorder ? He was adopted at age of 4 and was diagnosed as ADHD but untill recently, I havn't given this a serious thought. I have a call into our family physician but not sure if anyone could help here first.
I did look at a website and it's symptoms and it looks as if he has 75% of the symptoms. I know that I can't just judge my son by this but with the way he's been acting, something else is wrong. I've tried to adjust his ADHD meds but I feel that it's just masking the underlying issues.
HELP ?
You need to see a child psychiatrist. They can help with meds and diagnosis. They have a lot more expertise than a family practice physician.

talk to the school nurse or the schools admin . my 10 yearold bio son has ADHD with violent tendicies. His first school told us he was just a normal kids growing but when we moved the staff saw it right away and with in 2 weeks we had meeting with a psychiatrist and a women from the county social workers office and we got his the help he needed
I'm seriously suggesting you go to the local university hospital for children and have your child tested. In case you are very unsure of where to go, I suggest going to your local mental health colalition and they should be able to point you in the right direction. My daughter's school suggested ADHD to us, but before we went that route, I actually went to our social worker and she pointed us in the right way. Her DX is nothing like ADHD, but this is probaly because she's an adoptee and her past is quite different from her peers. Today, after seven years of inital (right) DX, she is able to go to school with her peers and function as a normal child. She actually has fun. If your child isn't happy, then by all means find out why.
