Seeking birth mother or birth family of my father. He was adopted at birth in Paterson, NJ.
What we know:
Born at Barnert Memorial Hospital in Paterson on 8/5/1944.
It was a private adoption.
The only name rumored to be on the original birth certificate was Bernice Brehne (possibly Brehn).
His adoptive father, IJ Wolf, was the head of pediatrics at the Barnert Hospital. Our adoptive name is Wolf.
Want to find some trace... so if you're out there...
spencer.wolf@yahoo.com
Fingers crossed...

There is current legislature to open access to a non certified long form birth certificate in New Jersey. The link takes you to where you can access it and also an email address to the sponsor of the bill so you can email your support. From my brief reading of the act once it has passed adoptees will have to wait a full year to allow birth parents to submit non-disclosures but if it passes then you will at least have a time line. There is indeed a bill in NJ to open unseal the records. However, while passing through the senate with ease, it's been stuck in committee for over a year. Strong opposition from Catholic groups and Adoption Agency lobby groups. Sad.
But thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. Let's hope they see the light soon.
